Recently there have been so many little girls in the studio for their first birthday and cake smash photo shoots. Although this is a session for both boys and girls, I think we tend to forget how cute little boys cake smash sessions are. It was so much fun watching this ADORABLE 1st birthday boy smash into his cake.
I loved the green, not only because green is my favorite color but because it was so colorful and was a perfect accent color.
When a cake smash session starts we have a beautiful set up. The backdrop is clear, the cake is carefully placed on the cake stand with absolute precision and care, the birthday baby is given a careful look over to check for any boogers, milk or scratches and within seconds we have a beautiful mess. And it sure is beautiful.
When this little man was having his cake smash, he loved playing with the frosting, then eating it. At one point he grabbed as much frosting as his little hand could hold (and then some) and tried to let it go. Instead the frosting stayed in his hand and he looked like he has a Hulk fist! Haha! It was so funny and so very cute.
Here is a sneak peek from his cake smash session. Enjoy the sweetness!
At first, when she touched the cake for the first time, she didn’t know what to think the than “get this stuff off of my hand”.
Then she realized how delicious and fun this adventure was going to be!
I absolutely loved having the opportunity to document this little girl’s special first birthday. There is no better way to celebrate the first birthday like a customized cake smash session.
I fell in love with the colors in this first birthday session. I would like to call this first birthday FASHION! The tutu was absolutely beautiful. It was made with cloth pieces of pink, aqua and gold. With so many different designs on the fabrics it really helped to make for the cutest tutu I have ever seen. Thanks to the many options on Etsy, we were able to find this one that fit this little girls skin tones, personality and her style!
She did’t have any problems with getting her first birthday out and the 1 year old toes dirty with cake and frosting! She loved every bite of her cake smash session! Can’t you tell?
As always, it is so hard to narrow down the photos to include in the sneak peek gallery. It was especially difficult with this cake smash session. With roughly one hundred and fifty photos to choose from, absolutely gorgeous attire, a yummy cake for days, and such a sweet little girl, I struggled to get a sneak peek gallery together. Without further delay… I hope you are able to enjoy this as much as she enjoyed the cake smash. Haha!
We just finished with one of the, if not THE, warmest February ever. Some people like a taste of winter, but I don’t mind flowers blooming in February, like they did for this sweet maternity session. With flowers blooming around the beautiful NC State Arboretum, it made for a beautiful setting.
I am so excited to meet this little bundle of joy. This is the couples first child and they have decided not to find out the gender until the baby is born! Can you imagine doing that with your firstborn? How fun and exciting!?! We will all find out in a few very short weeks.
With so many pretty setting at the arboretum, we had a wide variety of backdrop selections. It made it hard to narrow down the gallery and it made it even harder for mommy and daddy to pick out the photos they wanted. Here is more of a sneak peek from their maternity photography session.

Typical of January weather, it was so cold and rainy for this mini maternity photography session. So we open for a simplistic indoor/ studio maternity session and it ended up working out for all of us. I opted for few props to allow this room to fill up with love.
There were so many special moments through this session. They have already been so blessed with a sweet, well mannered, handsome and smart little boy. This little boy was now ready to take on his new role of being a big brother. Although a little shy, you could see the curiosity and excitement in his eyes.
One of the most beautiful moments is when the family brought out their bible. This is so significant because they are naming this baby girl, Talia.. right out of the Bible.
I am so excited to meet this precious little girl and see this family of 4 grow together… Perhaps not as excited as big brother!

Cake smash photography sessions are a relatively new thing. It is a great way to document your little ones first birthday in a fun, messy and very tasty way.
I had a great time watching this little man smash through his cake! He made a huge mess and loved ever bite of it!
