First Birthday Cake Smash Photography Raleigh NC | Cake Smash Session Photographer Holly Springs

Time flies when you are having fun! I mean, this handsome little man is celebrating his first birthday with a cake smash. It feels like just last month that I was at his home taking his newborn photos. You can get a glimpse of that newborn session HERE. Look how much he has grown!!

I am a little obsessed with how this session turned out. I am a lover of simple, so that we can focus the session on the birthday baby, not all of the other things going on. I am a firm believer that having a cake smash session that is simple, makes for a happier birthday baby too. They aren’t distracted with balloons or tissue puffs. Instead they find it fun to play with the camera, which allows us to get the smiles.

This naked smash cake was made by the amazingly talented Baked by Billie. Billie does a fantastic job and follow up with customers and truly works with me and my clients to ensure she makes the best cake for the vision we have for the session. In this cake, I love the leaves that we set at the base of the cake. To be honest, I thought Vincent was going to try and eat them…. lucky for us – he had NO interest in eating the leaves. He didn’t eat much cake either… as you can see from the photos below.. we had to bribe him with some cheerios. That worked out for us and he did like playing in the cake and making a little bit of a mess too!

Talking a little more about the set up, we used a wooden cake stand (this is one of the most popular cake stands I have because it goes with boys and girls first birthday sessions) and two twigs of vines across the back. The lighter paper allowed all of his features to pop and allowed us to focus on his cake smash session. This made all of us happy, happy, happy.
