Family Photographer | What to Wear for your session
So, you have booked your family photography session…. Now it is time to try and determine what the family should wear. It’s an overwhelming task, I get it. After all, these photos are, hopefully, going to be hanging in your home. Surely, you don’t want your family to look like you just rolled out of the dumpster. This overwhelming task is also a common reason why people don’t schedule family sessions. Any session with T&T Photography will get you a pre shoot consultation. We will help figure out what will work for you. I will walk you through this task.
I always ask my clients to stay away from whites. I also say aim for the 4 “C”s.
Colorful – Be bold and shy away from whites and blacks. I encourage my clients during a family photography session to have the children dress up in fun and bold colors and or patterns. I recommend that everyone finds one color that can be seen in everyones outfit. Let’s say red. Mom could wear a red necklace, dad could wear a shirt with red strips, your son could wear a checkered button down with a trace of red in it and your daughter could wear a dress that has red flowers. By having one color consistent, it marries the outfits together. Side note, I do not recommend wearing plain white shirts.
Character – When dressing your children find outfits that help demonstrate their personality. It really open up the pictures to capture their personality. The same goes for engagement session, if you have loves for team rivals, or have a love for the same team, it would be fun to incorporate that into an engagement photography session.
Compliment – Don’t try and match each other. Find colors that compliment each other. Go with different shades of blues or greens. Or go opposite sides of the color wheel.
Comfortable – Avoid wearing high heels, new shoes or an outfit that feels too tight. If you don’t feel comfortable, it will show in your photos.
I do have a Pinterest Board to help you with some color coordinations.
